Some families saw the conversion of their daughter as betrayal of their values and culture. ” Some were told that they were going to hell. Many of the converts experienced some sense of alienation from families and friends. On the other hand, some report that their decision to convert was accepted and even welcomed. ”27 Others report families that were initially very upset, but became more accepting. In a few instances, converts were able to convert other members of their family. 28 One interviewee reported that upon conversion, she divided the bedroom with a sheet and told her Christian husband that he was now a forbidden stranger and refused to relate to him until he finally converted in order to save the marriage.
